Budget (including currency):  < $2,000 USD

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Warzone, cod, League of Legends, Apex, other FPS games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): No peripherals needed, currently running a 1070 with an i5-6600k but would like to continue getting at least 120 fps in most games while running at 1440p.

So, I have a build in mind (listed below) and was wondering if I should change anything with it. I don't know much about anything in terms of specific components or technically terms so I don't exactly know what I'm looking for. I set up the build to be able to use DDR5 since I figured I may as well if I'm wanting this system to last at least 5 years from now. However, is DDR5 even worth it right now for gaming? I could make a build for about $400 less and use DDR4 so I'm looking for opinions on that as well. Thanks!

Build:

GPU: RTX 3070

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X

Memory: Vengeance DDR5 32gb

Storage:  Samsung 980 Pro m.2 drive (2TB)

Are you getting a microcenter deal on the CPU/MB/RAM combo. AM5 is still a pretty expensive platform to get into compared to LGA1700 and AM4 so unless you get such a deal, you might want to reconsider going with AM5.

You are able to make a comparable build using DDR5 with 12 or 13th gen Intel and might be able to squeeze out a 3080.

If you are deadset on AMD, I would also suggest looking into a 6800xt, great performance for value, but the lack of Tensor and CUDA cores might be a turn-off

You can consider 13th gen Intel CPU with that budget.

current PC:

Ryzen 5 5600 |16GB DDR4 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1080 ti [further details on my profile]

PC configs I used before:

  1. Pentium G4500 | 4GB/8GB DDR4 2133Mhz | H110 | GTX 1050
  2. Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz / OC:4Ghz | 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz / 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1050
  3. Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz | 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1080 ti

For your use, I think something like this makes more sense.

13th gen is cheaper than Ryzen 7000 and currently they are the fastest for gaming.

AMD cards have much better performance for the money, and the games you play don't support any Nvidia features afaik. In fact, I believe Warzone and Apex perform slightly better on AMD cards. If you want, you could wait for the 7900 XT release on December 13th.

No need for such an expensive SSD. The one I chose is great too, but I don't think you'd notice a difference even with cheaper ones.

Other RAM brands are usually cheaper than Corsair, so I went with that.
