Hello!

I recently bought a HDD enclosure for an old 60GB HDD I had laying around. I got it because my dad wanted a hdd to put his music in and since the enclosure only cost €7.5 it was cheaper than a 2.5" external drive. The problem is that I knew he had around 50GB of music but I didn't know the exact amount. The formatted HDD has 55GB available and my dad's music collection is 59GB in size... Do you have any idea how I could put it in there, I tried NTFS compression but Windows won't let me copy it. If I used 7zip I could probably get it under 55GB, but I'm not sure if foobar2000 can use compressed folders as media sources.

What do you think? Thanks!

Yeah, he needs to look trough it and delete some stuff.

I uploaded it all to Google Play Music but he doesn't like the interface. It's a shame though.

You could compress the music to 256Kbps or 128Kbps or only some of the music.

Most of it is 192Kbps already, is the difference between that and 128Kbps big? And is the sound difference big?

So destroy the quality of the music just so it'll fit, makes sense...

I have compressed my music from 320Kbps to 192Kbps. I can not tell the difference.

I can tell on quite a few songs of mine that were 192Kbps vs 320Kbps doing blind test controlled by someone else but anything after 320Kbps I can't and likely nobody can tell the diffenace.

Please do not start a discussion on audio files, etc. There are other places to do that (youtube comments on teksindicate's audio myths)

I'm probably going to convert the files, my dad isn't much of an audiophile, he cares about the song, not about the quality of the sound, and a lot of the music he has are rips from mp3 CDs.

EDIT: Do you suggest any programs?

mmmm, nope. I said "better yet, remove unwanted songs/music. before compressing" lol.

I would suggest LAME encoder and FooBar2000.
