Hi guys,

I brought a bose companion 2.0 system a while ago. Was surprised by the sound actually, almost passable bass for such small speakers, i then brought a logitech z906 and wow. I realised how lacking the bass really was for my bose speakers. I would really like to augment the bose system with a subwoofer. However i cannot really decide what to go for. If anyone here has any tips on subs, preferably under £50 (I really dont need fantastic quality) then comment below.

Thanks a lot,

Rich

Why bother trying to improve them. Sell'em or send them back.

Cus i like the sound quality on them. I also find them nice to look at

Pioneer SW-8mk2... love it, it performs extremly well for the price. I have it mated to my AudioEngine A2+'s and I couldn't be happier with the clean low's it provides.

Thanks a lot for your reply, looking like a fairly solid option... How do you have this sub connected to your audio source?

Well my AudioEngine's have a subwoofer input via RCA in the rear since it has a built in DAC. I used to have the Bose 2.0's but don't remember if they had an output in the back.

Just wondering what you thought of the vibe optisound tv6d? I know you dont have experience with it but you have more experience with subwoofers than i do haha. The only problem with the pioneer is that it is not available for sale on amazon here in the UK and i reallly would prefer to buy off amazon than another site.

They dont have an output. I would probably by a 3.5 mm jack splitter then use one to go to my bose speakers and a 3.5 mm to rca cable to connect to the sub. Would a setup like that work?

Well I can't comment on its sound quality but if I wanted to nitpick, the following would be a con in my book, not to mention i've never even heard of the manufacture.

You don't get a fully range frequency adjustment to fine tune the sound.

If I may point out, a subwoofer shouldn't make bass louder; rather it extends it so that low frequencies are reproduced. Demonstration here: http://www.audiocheck.net/audiotests_subwooferkicktest.php. If you aren't happy with the bass sans subwoofer, adding one probably won't help.

This is true... which is why my sub is set to the lowest possible level.I just need it to fill in the lows.

I don't want to hear it per say.

Okay so to clarify guys, i want to add a subwoofer because i have a 5.1 system and the bass on that is just plain better than a 2.0 system. I dont need to feel it or anything i have my 5.1 for that, i just want to make out and enjoy better reproduction of bass in films etc. I suppose now im asking whether people think the sub i have suggested is a good choice or whether there is a better budget sub out there. Thanks again
