I have to distribute a few dozen gigs worth of rehearsal video for an opera I am working on and am looking for a good solution.  I have all the videos on my FreeNAS server at home and have done a little digging to find that NextCloud might be a way to go.  This is partly because freenaas includes a nextcloud plugin.

Has anyone on here ever tried this program before? I have never accessed my freenas box from outside my home network.

It must be true, I read it on the internet...

Yes, owncloud and nextcloud can do what your looking to do, just make sure you have a decent upload speed from your ISP. Mine is only 5mb/s upload so it sucks for any large files. Another option would be to create a torrent, that way the speed increases as more people download and seed the files.

How many people need to access it, and what is your internet upload speed? This may be better suited for something like Dropbox or google drive.

I used google drive last year, but the files were only 8 gigs worth.  This year is is more than 30 so those other options aren't possible.
Plus, now I'm all excited to make my own cloud since I know it's possible.

It must be true, I read it on the internet...

It’s possible, but depending on how many people need access and what your upload speed it… it may take them many hours to download the data which will present its own issues.

It may be worth paying for google drive for a month… but again this more depends on how many people need the data and what your upload speed it.
