Hi folks,

I recently came to acquire some network hardware from work.

 - Protectli FW10416

 - Palo Alto PA-500

 - Cisco Catalyst 3750-x

 - 2x HPE 5510 JH147a

 - 2x HPE Aruba 2530-24g PoE+ 2SFP+ J9854a

 - ?x HPE 525 AP JG993a

Presently my home network is setup pretty basic, PFsense router, unmanaged switch, TP-Link AP, no issues, does everything we need.

First, could I get an opinion on the PA-500, don't really see myself needing/using it, what could I do with it, would you keep it for a home network?

Second, how do I connect the AP units, I don't presently have a rj45 to serial cable will I need one for setup? Is Aruba central the only way to setup and manage the AP? Is there a way to manage them through pfsense or Opnsense?

Ideally I'd like to have 6 poe cameras, 3 of the AP's and a home server connected on the network. Addtionally this project will include running network cable throughout the house to nearly every room. I think one switch is adequate for everything and there is a another location I'd like to deploy a similar setup at, potentially doing offsite backups of each other. Baby steps for now.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

Running obsolete firewalls skeeves me out. I'd keep your existing PFsense build unless it's even slower.

I don't think those APs support autonomous mode, so you'd need an HPE/Aruba controller (with licenses) to manage them.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.
