Mixing RAM Decisions

Go to solution Solved by Somerandomtechyboi,

For max ram capacity try having both the 2 4gb sticks on 1 channel and the 8gb stick on the other ram channel alone

If that doesnt work than the 2 4gb sticks alone in a dual channel config will certainly work since ive seen 2gbit micron d9pfj work fine with 2gbit hynix cfr, both very different ics clocking capabilities wise (d9pfj better for tight timings, slow 2000mhz. Hynix cfr best for high freq 3000+). Same thing here since im pretty sure most of hynix 4gbit ddr3 can do 3000+, particularly 4gbit mfr iirc thats the best for ram clocking shenanigans. And the microns likely prefer tight timings

If you wanna try some proper overclocking (>2400 ddr3) then mix match is not an option, but running stock especially at a snails pace 1600 or 1333 should be fine even with the most ridicolous of mix matching shenanigans

So I tried the 2 4GB sticks in dual channel and then added the Corsair 4GB stick with the Corsair 2GB stick.

Seems to post fine so for now at least it looks OK.

SPD Ext. is greyed out, so I think that indicates XMP isn't enabled. Does the Xeon E3-1240 v0 support XMP?
