Budget (including currency):  1000Eur

Country: Netherlands (Shipping from Germany or Belgium is alright too, as long as retailer ships it to NL)

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA Games (Don't mind playing high demanding games on medium graphics as they still look great), FPS, occasionally I use Kdenlive (Would like to use davinci resolve, however with my current machine it is unusable), gimp.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

As prices of last generation AMD processors went considerably lower, I'm planning a new build. Currently, I am using a 4+ year old laptop with an I5-7300HQ and a GTX 1050, so there is no realistic way to upgrade, and it is not capable of running the titles I wish to play. I'm also considering going with an Intel I5-12600K (which currently costs 329 EUR), but that's considerably more expensive, especially when for an additional 50 EUR I can get an R9 5900X (currently 380 EUR) or 5800X3D (372 EUR). Therefore, I don't really see a value proposition to go with an Intel processor. Also, I'm curious: is it worth going to 12600K for those efficient cores, or just getting the cheaper I5-12400?

I've seen a lot of people argue that building a new PC with an old AM4 socket is not worth it because it is the end of the road for it, but AM5 comes with a lot of additional costs, and it's not like I will be able to get more performance in games since I will be GPU limited anyways (I will be using the 1060 for now as I already have it, and I will be looking to upgrade it to the 3070 or 6700 XT in the following couple of months). The same applies to Intel. As I've been using my current laptop for so long, I don't think that I will be needing an upgrade to a system for at least 3+ years, excluding a GPU and maybe expanding storage, and by that time new Intel platforms will be available and AM5 will be fully mature.

Therefore, I would love to hear any advice from you on what kind of parts I should choose. Should I go with Intel, and why? Or should I stick with AMD's build? Or just bite the bullet and go for an AM5 build, which will be more expensive now but easier to upgrade in a few years' time?

P.S. I will also be looking to get a 1440p IPS monitor. I already own a 1060 GPU and VS650 power supply. I will be looking to buy parts in a couple of weeks as it will be time for Black Friday sales, so I hope to get a deal on a monitor and maybe a case and storage, but I doubt that there will be any discounts on CPUs or GPUs.

Do you think this kind of part is appropriate? Or should I choose a different MB, cooler, or case?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

The 1060 is real slow, no way playing at 1440p with it, you could get a 6600 and stay in budget

But imo getting only 16GB RAM (which is good enough for gaming) would allow you to get a 6600XT which is a real good 1080p card and decent at 1440p

I'd also swap the P2 for a better SN570 (same cost give or take 5 EUR..)

Thanks for a feedback, but I'm planning to use 1060 only for a short while and then upgrade it directly to 6700 xt or 3070 directly (or just grab used GPU which is bit cheaper, is that reasonable choose?), so it would give me a reasonable 1440p experience. Do you think that my choice of MD is alright or should I consider something else? Is there any advantages with B550 chipset over b450?

B550 boards are a bit better and got PCIe4

Now I'd rather lean toward a 13600K, it still on your budget and very good, it will just crush a 5800X...

Thanks, I will strongly consider this option over my previous build. On the other hand, for the same price I have R9 5900x and R7 5800x3d available, should I consider it, or just got with intel? And with z690 board, will I be able to flash new bios with just USB stick? Thanks.

13600K is as good as 5800X3D for gaming, and is as good as 5900X for everything else (multicore tasks), so currently it's just the best all around chip at lower high end range price
