Very specific needs

Go to solution Solved by Frugivore8894,

After some more research, we have found our choice. https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpadt/thinkpad-t15p-gen-3-(15-inch-intel)/len101t0039

Thank you to everyone that helped.

My friend needs a laptop with very specific specs. They are as follows.

  • 12th gen
  • 15 inches
  • 16gb of ram
  • Fully non-hinge ethernet port, thunderbolt, USB A, HDMI (the last one is optional but preferred)

Budget is not a problem but under 2k is better. Thanks for any help. I've done some research but things like ports are so hard to sort for lol.

Main Project:

A desk that has a hatch that opens in the middle of it and then goes down flush with the desk.

Other projects I am working on

  • Sleeper TI-99 4A
  • Second Keyboard

Thinkpads haven't been any good since a decade. The models before these that came with custom RX 550 or w/e, overheated, and were crap over all.

Be more specific on what applications need to run well. I've only used ThinkPads with either Intel GPUs or nVidia Quattro, neither had any issues. If you refer to the gaming laptops (Legion), those are not comparable to workhorses like the classic ThinkPad line and made subpar in comparison. If your friend wants a gaming laptop, then please tell us what games and why the 12th gen processor is needed.

No, you simply don't get it lol. This IS a Thinkpad, there are not gaming laptops in that specific config. Several of them came with the AMD RX Polaris LOW end card, it was something like a 550, and overheated. The iGPU ones were better, but still FELL SHORT.

Now you can get a laptop with an OLED display for HALF as much as this overpriced crap.

I own a 11th gen Zenbook OLED with Iris. It sucks bad compared to an APU. This is factual information, you're free to do your research on Intel iGPU vs AMD APU. Their drivers are also pretty bad. Basic in fact.

Good luck on wasting your cash on that. My laptop costs half as much, is less weight, has an OLED display and with the AMD APU, is stronger. Better on other areas too.

You didn't suggest one before, sorry I just assumed you didn't have anything specific. Please do tell!

Precisely, I'd check the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED with the 5600g. Quite a nice little machine actually, especially with the 90 Hz display. Mine is a 60.

ohh that looks almost perfect but we need an RJ45, just nonnegotiable and can't have a dongle. Other asus stuff might be better than that thinkpad though. Thanks for the rec!

Eh, tiny dongle would be fine tbh, but yeah I understand.
