Hi all, here's a PC I just finished upgrading. I am looking for tips on how to improve performance without spending a ton of money. Please let me know if you see anything that might be holding my machine back in terms of performance and which way would you go if you were to upgrade it. I am looking to run the upcoming Star Citizen Dogfighting module at 1920x1080 on this.

  • CPU Intel Core i7 3770 @3.40GHz
  • Motherboard Asus P8Z77-V LE Plus
  • RAM Corsair XMS3 DDR3 16GB (2x8GB) @1333 MHz
  • GPU MSI R9 270 2048 MB GDDR5 @955 MHz (plan to OC) [uPGRADE from ASUS GeForce GTX560Ti 1024MB]
  • Case Cooler Master Silencio 550

Should run the module just fine, The main thing you could stand to upgrade is the GPU at this point. But those can be pricy of course. Pretty neat little build though all in all

Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. R9 270 is okay and overclocks well but is far from stellar. Would you recommend crossfiring another R9 270 or saving up for a better single card, like a GTX 780?

Personally I always recommend a better single GPU, much less fussing about, much more reliable. I would just roll with what you have for now, save up and get a really proper GPU card like the 770 or 780 or equivalent AMD card when you can. Hell maybe nvidia will have spilled the beans on Maxwell and you can get a brand new one by then, who knows.
