Motherboard sparked on startup are my components fried

Go to solution Solved by GalacticRuler,

There's no way to know for sure what got damaged, but if anything died it was most likely the SSD, since you say the arc came from it. If your friend has a PC of his own you could test the GPU with his PC, and for the CPU and RAM the most likely situation is that the motherboard took the damage in their stead. Though again, nothing can be said for certain until it is tested.

System specs:

r5 5600

2x8gb Corsair vengeance 3200 ddr4

1660ti (used)

nzxt h510 flow

aorus elite ax v2 (mobo)

Wd sn770 (ssd)

Corsair rm650 (psu)

I just finished my first build and was excited to turn it on. As soon as a flipped the psu switch a small flash (and my friend says he saw an arc) traveled from the ssd to my gpus backplate. We are almost certain it was a motherboard issue as it appeared to be damaged in shipping (banged up by the courier etc) so we weren’t fully expecting it to boot. What we didn’t expect was for it to arc and no I’m worried that instead of getting rma on the mobo I’ll have to replace every part. The fans didn’t spin up and there’s was no cosmetic damage or scratches on the mobo itself (so maybe a faulty model). I’m halfway through rma with Amazon but need to know if the whole thing is kaput. Thanks in advance.

Yes all the cables I used were from the original psu. I’m checking if the capacitors on the mobo r blown rn.
