I currently have a Lenovo Ideapad z575 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246328). It has for the past few month have issues with Overheating and such. As long as I do normal just web browsing or video watching it’s generally fine, however if I play anything more stressful then Star bound I have issues with it overheating.

I'm transferring from community college to a University. I should be getting around $2500 back from financial aid not used for tuition. I need to only buy one book, which I'm hoping to find used for a cheap price. I figure I might buy a new notebook computer. I’ll be on campus from like 11am to like 6:45pm, so yeah all day. I wouldn’t say gaming is the primary concern here, but after using my current desktop I have expectations when in come to performance.

 What I know I want:

·         14” screen

·         Slim and light weight to an extent

·         Half way decent battery life

·         6 Gb of Ram or more

I figure with the smaller form factor it would be easy to carry around campus. I’ve looked at a few MSI notebooks, as well as the Old and New Razer blade. I’m not too worry about having an optical drive, I’m looking in to getting an external one, because my desktop doesn’t have one either, I can share across devices. I just would like something that if I say I want to jump in to Farcry 3, Tomb Raider, Payday 2, I could. I don’t care about playing games as Ultra high res, just at a decent resolution and frame rate. Just wanted to know if anyone has some recommendations. I would prefer not using the whole portion I’m getting back for financial aid.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Do you guys think the New Razor Blade would be worth it? For some reason I keep looking at that computer. Id have to go with probley the cheaper one with the 128Gb of storage but thats not a really big deal. I could just buy an external drive or use a flash drive for extra storage, If needed.

I wouldn't go for that. I mean 128GB is like nothing. You're not going to want to have like 3 USB sticks with various installed software.

I have the same laptop but with a a8 and 8 gb of ram, I feel your pain but this lappy does get hot enough to burn your hand but still runs anyway

Yeah but mine actually shuts down due to over heating. I have replaced the thermal compound multiple times and have a laptop cooler. Im done fiddling with it. I know a few more times of over heating and it could be toast. I might be able to swing the 256GB model of the New Razer Blade. Keep in mind I don't intend to install all of my Steam Games. I still open for suggestions, but I don't think Intel Integrated graphics will work for me.

I really suggest against the Razorblade. They're not very good laptops in my opinion. I'd go for either a custom, a lenovo, or ASUS.

The issue I have is for some reason Companies like ASUS don't build many 14" notebooks. I guess Ill have to compromise on size. I wont go with the 17" though.

This might be good.
