Lab 2 Audio Testing Scope

Go to solution Solved by Proud Cipher,

I don't know if it has been explicitly stated yet, but I'd wager AV equipment is directly in the Lab's crosshairs. There is a lot of corporate tomfoolery in that area of tech, and I know Linus has said before that he wants to be able to root out dishonest business practices with Labs. It might be a hot minute before they are able to start testing on AV/Home Theater equipment because the tools needed to analyze them accurately, including an anechoic chamber, are very expensive.

Will Lab 2 test speakers or home theatre equipment of any kind?

I've been getting into AV equipment recently, and there is so much out there from countless brands, some I know to be reputable, but most I have no idea. I remember seeing a LTT video a while ago about their earbud/ headphone testing dummy heads, and the sound chamber they plan on building, but am wondering how far-reaching that will be.

For example, Polk speakers vs Klipsch speakers. Both are brands that I've heard in-person, but 1) there are so many speaker brands that I haven't heard and 2) I'd like to know scientifically how they compare. I really love the effort that goes into LTT videos, and would love a concise, unbiased reviewing of AV equipment. If that's in the works, I may have missed it, so let me know. Thanks!

Ok, thanks for the info. Any idea what else they'd need to test a receiver, for example?

To be honest, I personally don't know as much about AV, most of what I've absorbed is from hanging with AV nerd friends. They could tell you exactly what you'd need, all I know for sure is it is damn expensive.
