For the longest while VR has been sort of off my lists of "wants" because of a) the cost of headsets b) the lack of interesting titles c) my lack of computing horsepower to drive a headset and d) the fact that i didn't have space for a VR play area.

However, times have changed, and having recently upgraded my GPU and moved apartments, I now find myself with some cash burning a hole in my pocket.

To be clear, I'm not looking for a new headset: my budget for this is around 200EUR/USD (for the whole setup) so I'd be looking at an older, used model (and I'm absolutely willing to spend less if possible). Saw a few gen 1 Vive and Oculus headsets in that price range. Titles I'd be playing would probably be HL:Alyx, Beat Saber, maybe even No Man's sky VR, although I haven't thought too long and hard about it yet.

I'm sort of out of the loop though, and given the sheer variety of models out there I need some help picking something.

Is there anything I should be on the lookout for? Common issues to whatch out for? Is this even advisable? Any help would be appreciated.

Current rig is R7 1700, RTX 2080, 16GB RAM.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

this one is a no brainer but check for scratches on the lens

also check for cracks in the controllers

and check all the camera sensors on the headset it self

Skip the rift one. You need 3 sensors for proper tracking or else it sucks badly.

The vive is fine but it has a decent screen door effect and thats not great.

A used rift s is in budget just check for lens damages and the cable works well as sadly if the cable goes the headset goes too (its replaceable but fb made them more expensive than the headset)

Also ask the seller if he is an eyeglass wearer. There are special prescription glasses or adapters for headsets. Mine HP Reverb G2 which I bought used also has these kinds of special adapters.

Turns out the old owner was an eyeglass wearer and didnt used these adapters. Turns out there are scratches from the glasses everywhere but he just stated it was normal signs of use for him..

PS: No mans sky is running extremly poor on VR. Tested it with a RTX 3070 and a RX 6900XT
