Now that is a pretty cool build

Unfortunately those xeons suck singlecore wise esp at slow stock speeds so yea i do suggest not bothering with these old westmere xeons unless you need the multicore but even haswell-e does that better (dirt cheap e5 2670/2683 v3 on aliexpress)

Yea only upgrade i see would be getting an oc board even a lower end one like the p6t or x58a ud series to oc ~4.5g for gaming atleast since they still offer decent performance when oced, just make sure to not be an idiot and run proper uncore (3800-4200 depending on how high the cpu goes, my crap x5660 only did 3900 at a perfectly safe 1.48v vtt)

Did taking out the airflow channel and putting a ghetto 120 fan in the middle help? Seems like a step backwards to me.

Yes, the ghetto fan worked. it dropped both of my CPU temps by 7 degrees. from 72 Ish to around 65 degrees. Since i took out the old air flow guides it much cooler in that case. plus, then I could put a better gpu in there. (Original was a fx4800 Quadro gpu)
