Warhammer 3

Go to solution Solved by baronvonsatchel,

Which drive is WH3 on? If it's on the Samsung, the drive probably isn't the issue. If it's the 2.5" drive, it might be holding you back a little since SATA is much slower than even NVMe gen 3 (which is what your Samsung drive is). That said, I wouldn't bother with gen 5, and even gen 4 is overkill for the average gamer unless you also edit huge video files or something.

Even if you have a super fast SSD, the CPU still has to do the work of decompressing and moving data between the the drive and RAM. It's also the thing that is holding you back on turn times. Speeding up the turns only affects the animations, it doesn't change how long the AI takes to think about its move. The 8700 is a few years old and WH3 is a recent game, so that's probably what you want to upgrade first.

That said, it's still partly on the developer to optimize their game. Some games will just run like crap no matter what you do. WH3 might just be one of those. I know WH2 was like that for a long time before they made improvements to the AI.

Hi there all, I play a lot of Warhammer 3, my current system specs are;

8700 (non k)

256 NVME Samsung 970

1TB 2.5" SSD WD Blue

RTX 3080 FHR

16GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RAM 3600 mhz

TUF Gaming VG34VQL1B (3440x1440)165Hz

The problem I am running into is twofold with WH3.

1) The load times are long, even with an SSD - anywhere from 30-70 seconds, this is apparently normal for WH3.

2) The end turn phases take long, even if sped up.

I want to keep my GPU, but upgrade to PCI gen 5 for faster load times and perhaps a faster CPU can handle more faster end turn times.

FPS is not the issue for me.

Is this going to work? Or is it a waste of time and its up to the developers to optimize the game?

I was thinking of getting whatever the 13th gen i5 is, with Gen 5 NVME and DDR5 RAM.

Thanks,

Ah okay great, thank you 🙂
Yes it is on the 2.5", I was thinking of putting it on the NVME but there just doesn't seem to be enough space, I'd need to look at what's on it and then see if its possbile to move WH3 over to it.

Ok that is interesting about the CPU, and that Gen 4 being overkill for games. Thanks for that. I need to consider price/performance ratio then too. I guess I need to do some more tinkering on my side, before I just buy a whole new setup and feel underwhelmed by the results.

Your games won't load noticeably faster until Direct Storage or whatever it is hits.  SATA SSD's and uber fast NVMe SSD"s perform nearly identically with game files, they're not large enough to take advantage of the sustained speeds of NVMe drives.

Get a nice 1TB NVMe drive to try out, but I wouldn't go spending money on brand new super hotness.  There's a reason I still use SATA drives.
