Hi all, as my computer has only one hard disk slot, i am planning to replace my hdd with a sdd. However i do not want to waste the hdd and hope to convert it to an external one by using a sata to usb 3.0 converter. Is it possible? Do i still need to take care of the power to the hdd? Can the usb port power the hdd?

If the HDD is a 3,5" drive, you will have to also run power to it. The enclosures and docks you can buy should provide this.

Is your PC a laptop? If not you could just stick the SSD down somewhere in the case. SSDs don't really need to be installed in a specific place.
