As the the title suggests I live full time in my converted sprinter van. I'm planning a new PC build for the van. Originally I was going to go for a high-end Laptop (Eluktronics PROMETHEUS XVII, i9 12900H, 3080Ti 64GB) Instead I will build a new PC as I enjoy building them, I know how to repair them, and I'm buying for the next 8 years. Upgrading from i5 4690k, gtx 980, 16gb ddr3.

My question to you guys would it be more beneficial to get a verticle gpu bracket or just a normal supported gpu? The PCIe slot will have to endure the bounce of normal road use and vibrations.

Budget (including currency): infinite (no mortgage, no rent)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, home Entertainment, basically everything that Amazon fire stick can't handle.

Other details: likely a thicc GPU

I'd look for a case that lays the mobo flat tbh, that way the GPU mounts vertically, so it isn't hanging off the PCIe socket at all to begin with.

I didn't even consider a layflat pc case.... They make those? I'm gonna have to look into this.

Yep! I use one right now but it's way larger than you'd want in a van. Corsair Air 540, it's not explicitly a lay-flat, but a cube case. Most of those flip on their side without issue. And then ITX cases often do, the Node 304 I have my VM box at work in has the mobo lay flat, though that is an older case so poor clearance for modern GPUs (it fits a 2 slot GPU, not a 2 1/2, 3, 4, or any other massive modern chonker). There's other similar cases, I think Silverstone makes some as well. Really any small box that can lay on its side would be great, I'd imagine in a van you do want an SFF case for space reasons.

Well actually I'm not super concerned with space. I plan on making the pc a main point of the van. I do have a few locations where I can build it. As long as it's under 36 inches in height that's the only restriction to size of the case. Van is kinda big lol. I was going to go for the lian LI o11 or the thermalake tower 500. But honestly I'm open to any ideas.

One really good one is the O11 Air Mini which you can get a vertical GPU mount for from Lian Li! I have it without the vertical mount and it’s great. However, if you find a layflat case you like, that’s undoubtedly the best option.

I'll look into layflats, the ones I've seen so far aren't the most appealing. I'll check out the o11 mini!

Yeah they can tend to be pretty ugly lol, one of the ones I really, really like is the thermaltake Core P3. I woulda bought it but I like the Cooler Master SL600M better so I bought that instead. It’s got support for wall mounting, layflat, and standing up (and you can even mount it to a table or the floor so it doesn’t slide around!)
