Hello everyone, a month ago I had a problem with a software called Overwolf. After talking to the technical support, we found out that my ISP or something else in the way blocks the download of certain applications, but the phone's hotspot sometimes helps but not always. For example, yesterday I tried to download a large application and something blocks it, and this morning it Also happened when I tried to download a certain game.
From what could it be, really from the ISP or from something else?
And if you need more information, I will be happy to provide it to you

Did you contact your ISP and asked if they blocked it? Make sure you provide them with what application it is and what URL/address so they can troubleshoot.

I doubt it's an ISP issue, but a software problem on your end. You could ask a frend (or random person) to download the thing, if they have the same ISP. But you could also try to get a (free trail?) version of a VPN. That could kinda prove where the actual problem lies.

Hello @OmerPhilo1205, screenshots of the download failing will definitely be helpful. Does it pop up full screen with something related to "you can't visit this site", or does it simply say "download fail" in your browser's download manager?

Some other info that may be useful:

  • Your OS (and version)
  • Your browser (and version)
  • Some network configuration settings. (Do you use your ISP's default DNS?)
  • Your network setup (Do you just use your ISP provided AIO modem/router/AP, or do you have a separate router/AP with the modem set to bridge mode?)

Some tricks I would try:

  • File a ticket with the ISP, and see how they respond. If they say "no, it must be either Overwolf's server or your computer", continue below.
  • If you're using wi-fi, plug an ethernet cable into your computer and your router, and see if that works.
  • Log into your router's administration console (192.168.*.*, replace asterisks with your router's IP address), and navigate to the DNS settings (usually under WAN or something related). If necessary, switch the DNS settings to use your own DNS settings, then enter public DNS server IPs, such as 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 for Cloudflare, or 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for Google, in the primary and secondary DNS fields respectively.

Try re-downloading Overwolf and/or your other large file again between each of the tricks. If it works after the 1st one, you were being bottlenecked by your wi-fi connection. If it works after the second, then it WAS your ISP's default DNS all along. Leave it set as the public DNS, and set it to the public one again when upgrading your router in the future.
