4k+60Hz+HDR

On Vega 11 only Displayport supports 4K60 + HDR.

Hi there,

I'm pretty much at 0 knowledge about all this. I got a new TV (Sony A80J) and I'm running a HTPC to watch movies/series/youtube/...

Specs on the PC are:

Gigabyte B450M S2H AMD B450 So.AM4

AMD Ryzen 5 3400G 4x 3.70GHz So.AM4

currently I'm connected with a "high quality" cable (rated for 8K) from my PC to the HDMI3 input on the TV. But in Windows I can only go for 4K + HDR + 30Hz. As soon as i go to 60Hz HDR will be disabeled.

Do I have to adjust something on the TV itself? Is it a problem of the GPU (RX Vega 11 / Ryzen APU)?

As far as i understand I would need at least HDMI 2.0 which APU and Mainboard both support.

Is it worth upgrading to a dedicated GPU like a GTX1050ti?

So because my Mainboard only supports HDMI, I need to upgrade to a dedicated GPU?

I also have the A80J - issues like this are one of the reasons I ditched a Windows-based HTPC ages ago. Dealing with 4K, HDR, refresh rate, and DRM issues was just a massive headache. So I use an Xbox One S as a dedicated media box over HDMI, and I have no issues with 4K + HDR.

I know that many people, even with the correct supported hardware, have issues getting 4K + HDR + 60Hz working on a PC. Best of luck, and if you do get it working, please share your experience!
