I'm looking to build a PC setup similar to what Linus at one point had/has. Where the PC's are rack mounted in a central part of the house. I saw in one video that Linus used the Icron Raven fiber optic extender for some of his devices. I don't want to introduce latency by doing this, but it seems like a workable solution over short/intermediate distances to separate the Keyboard/mouse/headpohones from the main PC. 20-50 feet at most.  I'm not too worried about price, but is that an acceptable solution for gaming applications? Or am I going to have problems with latency? Also, how could I do multiple displays, would I need separate optical display cables?

Honestly, unless you have a pretty solid understanding of this type of thing… don’t bother. I’d love the have the financial situation to try, but it would cost thousands of dollars just in cables, media converters, KVM’s, not to mention the wiring through walls/hoping you have conduit where you need it. And after all of that, it still likely won’t work, at least not smoothly… and I would put myself at a relatively well informed PC builder, Homelaber with a managed network and home automation setup. And I look at linuses server rack plans and just sort of think of all of the headaches involved. I would attempt it…. But I’d go in knowing it likely wouldn’t work, and would cost ~5k  easy just in trial and error.
