I recently upgraded my PC from the Samsung 860 EVO SATA to the Seagate Firecuda 520 NVME SSD. Do I have to be worried about “misalignment”? If so, should I just do a fresh install of Windows 11 (idk if that would fix that) or am I able to use some tool to fix that?

I understand that happens with HDD to SSD. But I wasn’t sure if it applies to this situation and I couldn’t find any advice or experience while browsing Google.

Thank you for your time.

As long as your original drive isn't completely full and the replacement drive at least matches, if not exceeds the true capacity of the original, I don't see why that'll be an issue. A good cloning software should be able to resize partitions to fit.

That’s good to hear. I used a program called Macirum Reflect to clone the ssd into the NVME and the NVME is bigger. But it didn’t resize my partition. I had to use another software which I don’t remember the name to combine the unallovated space with the partitioned space in the new drive.

Could have used Samsung Magician as well, but both work great.

Btw, what is misalignment?  As far as I know, there are only 2 ways to copy a drive.  Drop and Drag or Cloning.  Drop and Drag can't be done for booting, and Cloning is 100% accurate as far as my use cases have been.

Is this a thing like PCIe lanes or anti-static wrist strap concerns?

Apparently, it might not be what I thought it was:

http://updates.macrium.com/help/v5/partition_alignment.htm

It seems to be more of an issue only when cloning a HDD to a SSD because of how they deal with offsets differently.

I thought it was the whole cloning a HDD to a SSD is difficult cause the size difference people often ran into at the time. Like cloning a 500 GB HDD to a 250GB SSD for instance.
