Planning to buy a 4K monitor, does CPU,Ram,Motherboard need an upgrade?

Ektelion

Budget (including currency):  2000E

Country: Greece

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Pubg, Destiny 2, World of Warcraft, Counter Strike, Battlefield and some high graphic games like Tomb Raider etc.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

My current specs are

Cooler Corsair H150 I pro water cooler
Z370 Asus Maximus X Hero
I7 8700K intel
32gb of DDR4 Corsair 3600 MHZ CL 19 samsung Ram
RTX 2080 Ti Asus strix
current Monitor atm Alienware 3440x1440 120hz

What i plan to upgrade to is to a 4k monitor at least 100 hz.

Is the cpu holding me back or i can upgrade to a Monitor and maybe a 4080 to run smooth 4k resolution at high/ultra settings and hold the rest of the system as it is?

The problem is the new gen cpu is going to require DDR5 memory which i dont want to upgrade to yet.
Also my water cooler wont be compatible with new Intel socket since it has a different mounting bracket.

I heard CPU is only bottlenecking at lower resolutions where it takes more load where in 4k resolutions all the heavy work is falling on the GPU.

The i7 8700K is basically the equivalent of a Ryzen 5 3600X or an Intel i5 10400. Maybe a tiny bit better, but not by much.

You should upgrade the platform first.

Watch this video, your path will become clearer.

Got ninja posted by something more accurate. Read that one

What it comes down to is are you satisfied?  Do you NEED to update?  No.  You will still run things fine. It is probably the next thing TO update though.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
