Hi, I'm a newbie can someone educate me about cpu/gpu temps.

So I recently got an RX 580 8G paired with my i7 4790 with 2x8Gb of RAM.

Ever since I got a new gpu I started to get anxious about the temperature of my components so I installed MSI Afterburner and monitored my cpu/gpu temps while playing.

I googled what's a safe temp for cpu/gpu and I found various answers that I should stay at less than 80c, some say 90c and others up to a 100c so I'm confused.

While playing Titanfall 2 at the default recommend settings (Pretty High) I'm getting around 80-85c with 100% GPU utilisation and CPU around 60-70c with 40-60% utilisation at 60-90fps when I lower the settings I can stay well below 80c.

But I don't want to miss the high graphic settings since I can run it smoothly with no problems except the GPU temp anxiety, so my question is, does 80-90c GPU temp is fine with my RX580?

the CPU temps are fine.

If you install AMD Adrenalin (the AMD driver) you are able to change the GPU fan speed if you go to performance - tuning - GPU
there you can change the fanspeed under "custom"

if you don't know what fan speed for what temperature you'd need, just tune a bid around

80c is normal operating rang for a card of that type and if it does get to hot it will throttle itself down to stay cool. you can always adjust the fan curve or give it a clean to try and reduce temps. If it ever does get out of operating ranges and cant seem to throttle down it will shut itself down.

CPUs and GPUs has a built in hard limit for temps, usually at 100C. At this point they will thermal throttle hard enough to keep the temps below it, that will severely hurt performance.

If throttling isn't enough they will shut down to protect them selves. This usually dont happen unless there is something wrong with the cooling solution.

However its not good for them to run at that high temperatures over long periods, so if you can keep the CPU under 90C and the GPU under 80-85C they will be fine.

To manage the GPU temps, you can try undervolting the card. That way you can often get the same performance at lower temps. GPUs also boosts higher the lower the temps are, so in some cases you can actually get better performance by undervolting

Wow! AMD Adrenalin software rocks!! I tried tuning it by following a guide online with the same card as mine and copied their fan curved and test out undervolting and this is the results.

Same settings but now temps are below 80c. I'm mind-blowned rn thank you so much!
