DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter (without DSC

I’m using a 2022 OLED TV with four HDMI 2.1 ports. Naturally, I’d like to try out 4K120 but my current laptop only has an HMDI 2.0 port, therefore I’m limited to 4K60. The laptop also has a Mini DP 1.4 port. Recently I stumbled across a Mini DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter which claims to support 4K120. According to the manufacturer, this contraption requires Mini DP 1.4 with DSC 1.2. My laptop is equipped with an Nvidia 1050 Ti which does not support DSC. So, in terms of bandwidth the laptop effectively has a Mini DP 1.3 port. However, Wiki states that even DP 1.3 is capable of 4K120 4:4:4 with 8 bpc (24 bit/px), e.g., 4K120 requires data rate of 25.82 Gbit/s, whereas DP 1.3 maxes out at 25.92 Gbit/s. So, where’s the catch? Should I try this product?

Not the same model but I'd think the same chip with the difference being full sized connector vs mini?

DSC is required for enabling HDR, which uses 10 bpc color depth (30 bit/px).

Unfortunately, it looks like this contraption is unable to provide 4K120 with DP1.4 (without DSC) even in the SDR mode. As you can see, Nvidia Control Panel maxes out at 4K60.

 

I also tried to create a custom resolution to force 4K120 but all I got was a flickering green screen.

 

The only advantage over an HMDI 2.0 port is its ability to use 10 or 12 bpc color depth, although I’m not sure whether does it make any noticeable difference.
