Aim: 4K Gaming/Video Editing

(I don't mean YouTube video editing. More like AI driven upscaling and interpolation.)

CPU COOLER - Deepcool LS720 (White)
GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12 GB GAMING X TRIO

MOTHERBOARD - Asus ROG STRIX B660-A
RAM - G.Skill Trident Z Royal Elite 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4-3600 CL16

NVME - Inland Platinum 2TB
CASE - HYTE Y60 (White)

Just looking for general advice on this build. I already own the NVME and am ready to buy the rest. I say preferred on the budget because I'd like to keep it close to that but am willing to spend more.

You may notice there is a color theme so I know some parts are over priced. However, I'm open to any suggestions regardless of aesthetics. Also, for some reason the 3080ti had cheaper options than the 3080 so there's that.

Get 2x16 ram instead of 4x8, far better chance to run it stable at 3600 MHz.

Other than that it looks good. Maybe an i7 for video editing but if it's a gpu heavy application what you are talking about then the 12600k is great.

It is gpu heavy and will actually make use of all 12GB of vram. Still, can the extra performance cores of a 12700K make a difference for editing or gaming if it's mostly gpu bound?

For your editing it really depends on the exact program / application. For gaming it can offer a tiny increase in fps / performance.

I think with the 12600k you're good.

The memory is not validated for the motherboard. Also, from the motherboard memory QVL notes:

"・Please ensure all memory modules are from a single validated kit. Do not combine DIMMs from multiple kits—even if they are the same make and model. Mixing and matching DIMMs can result in failure to boot and compatibility cannot be guaranteed."

If you are going to use an unlocked CPU, might as well put it on a Z690 motherboard.

With a few minor adjustments it is possible to squeeze in an i7.

Much more cost effective and upgraded to a 12700kf + 3090 over a 12600k and 3080ti

If you want a white gpu either buy used or paint yourself, too lazy for both then go waste a few hundred for something that does nothing for performance

I think teamgroup has a lighting kit for their rams so itll either be included or you buy seperately, basically dummy sticks to fill in the 2 empty slots with rgb. Dont bother with fast ram as it doesnt give you much performance benifit (assuming crazy tight subtimings 3800 cl14/15 bdie or ludicrous 5200+ cl20+ djr oc) and is exclusive to overclockers (which mostly do it for fun anyways, i mean my 1520 7-9-6-9 ddr2 isnt fast but hey bragging rights), stick to 3200 cl16 or 3600 cl18, 3600 garbage non bdie cl16 (like the kits you chose) are idiot traps dont bother and oc your 3600 cl18 instead

If you need more i/o than what the z690 steel legend provides then get a z690 aero g ddr4 as that has boatloads of i/o (particularly dual usbc rear i/o), cpu overclock is dead dont try focusing on that, strong vrms on z690 are a dime a dozen, ram oc is painful and only for maniacs like me that can keep their sanity for days of failing so i suggest avoiding that unless you got the will and can keep your sanity xD and also got good ram ics, cheapest way is bare pcb 16gb micron/crucial but youd have to manually paint that since they are green bare pcb, 4600+ easy though, and no more expensive =/= more better like pretty much everything in life, gotta be a cheaper solution that matches or beats expensive stuff

You know I had considered the z690-a but wasn't sure I would benefit from it at first. I do like the 2nd 3.2gen2 USB port  and will have to revisit that board.

Had no idea there was a 3090 only 100$ more than the 80ti so that's cool. I'm not worried about its color though I'll take care of that.

The RAM I knew was over priced and chose it primarily for aesthetics. However I wasn't sure how much a difference the actual speed/latency would make though. Moreover, I have no need for overclocking so I doubt I will. If lower is fine then I'll gladly save the money there.

The z690 will be enough. The board I had chosen was because I've used Asus before but it's not like that really matters.

Can you name one legitimate real world beneifit to using a $300+ motherboard when budget optimization is being considered?

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

What I suggested stayed in budget and retained the design aesthetic. I don't believe the OP stressed budget reduction over compromise of the aesthetic. In fact, just the opposite.

I believe unlocked CPU are better matched with Z690 motherboards. Doing so opens the option of overclocking should it ever be needed or desired. Such a pairing also improves resale value.
