Inserted old HDD in PC; PC not turning on

STEELFLYER2624

Recently, i found an old HDD in my room, and as the stupid idiot i was, i decided to install it in my PC. after the formatting was complete, i was unable to open the drive, so i shut the computer off (which was very slow). This afternoon, i tried to turn it back on, and it has been stuck on the same startup it usually is on. Im not sure if i should just rip the hard drive out and hope for the best, or wait until it turns on, and find out what to do next. any suggestions?

I've seen failing drives bring a computer to its knees as the system waits for it to do something. Unless it's a drive of high capacity that you really want to use, or it contains data you really care about (not likely if you already formatted it), then I'd just toss it and move on. Removing it should bring your PC back to life.

You can also try removing it, then hot-plugging it after your system is running. Might be able to get some smart data, or other info as to why it's not working correctly.

Ok, so it turned back on, but it's super slow. i went into disk management, and couldnt load the services for it. im turning it off, and just removing the drive from the computer. Thanks.

Yeah, failing HDDs can really screw up a PC.
