High temperature problem

I got h81m-d with i3-4170 with 2x4gb ram without GPU

my pc suddenly start to have rise of of heat after i download gta V and have some smell. Is that mean i need to change thermal Paste? And i also check if their is problem in the motherboard and it seems all fine When it suddenly shutdown from heat i also can still open it though but not gonna try again plss help and is it also easy to clean and change thermal paste?
