Looking to upgrade

Go to solution Solved by Eleyte,

I'm in no way a water cooling expert or anything like that.

In terms of reliability, a properly done loop shouldn't have issues. Yes, the risks are there but those are from mistakes being made. Upkeep should be to drain and replace the liquid every 6 months--maybe more if things look good. Costs will depend on how much you want to spend. Anywhere from low hundred(s) to $1000+. In terms of price/performance, watercooling isn't good until you've already gotten the best of the best on the hardware side.

Custom water cooling solutions look awesome but i think they're a bit beyond what i need, once i'm running multiple GPUs i'll look more into it.

Parts are now ordered and it'll be built by sunday

Thanks

I was looking at upgrading my system and case so its a bit more suitable for water cooling and in the future, buying a new graphics card for a star citizen build.

Currently i have

4770k i7

Asus Nvidia GTX 660ti

500gb Samsung SSD

2Tb Western Digital

Be quiet 730w PSU

16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Memory

Intel Z87 Chipset Motherboard

Coolermaster Hyper EVO Cooler -replacing

CM stacker 830m -replacing

I'm looking at buying

Corsair Hydro Series H110 280mm

http://www.ebuyer.com/462121-corsair-hydro-series-h110-280mm-high-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler-cw-9060014-ww

Corsair Obsidian Series 750D Full Tower ATX Case

http://www.ebuyer.com/579787-corsair-obsidian-750d-full-tower-atx-case-cc-9011035-ww

Noctua NF-A14 FLX 140mm Premium Quality Fan * 5

http://www.ebuyer.com/621462-noctua-nf-a14-flx-140mm-premium-quality-fan-nf-a14-flx

I want to water cool my CPU and get the best performance i can put of the system so my idea was to buy the hydro 110 and replace a couple of the 140mm fans with the Noctua ones, and fill the rest of the case with them to boot (this may be overkill). Looking at a new case to fit it all in i landed on the 750D but i'm really looking for any advice or suggestions on products which could work better.

Also i was wondering with if this set up would really benefit from a sound card rather than using on-board sound as i game with Steelseries H wireless headphones.

http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-h-wireless

This is an ongoing project to make a pretty insane build so any other suggestions on products which are necessary or simply cool would be appreciated, i'm looking to spend around £500.00 (about 800 USD)

Thanks

Will post pics and temps when the rig is finalized and built

You'd get more performance by grabbing another 660 Ti for sli than getting a new case, fans, and watercooling.

Wireless headsets have their own sound card built-in. Getting another one wouldn't help. Link for the headset don't work btw.

Looks good to me, don't know about the sound card stuff though.

I think he said he is upgrading to a different GPU in the future, so I think he has the money for a new one, and is not concerned about "overall" performance increase. I'm speaking for someone else though, so idk.

Yeah as Anthony10 said, i'm going to upgrade my GPU in the future, my 660ti performs pretty well as it is, the plan for the future will probably be to grab another 660ti, watercool them and run the two in SLI. I'm waiting to see what happens with the Oculus rift at the moment though. I imagine when CV1 is released Nvidia and AMD will probably put out some special drivers for it and i'll see which one gets the best performance. At the moment i'm using a 1080p 60hz TV so getting 120 frames isn't a major priority.

If your performance is fine, why are you upgrading? Just because it's cool?

Well my GPU performance is fine as i rarely dip under 60 frames but my work space is very hot and some of the temperatures i'm getting are... worrying. Hence the emphasis on cooling. When i have it cooled as well i can push the overclocking to the limit, trying to squeeze all the life out of my GPU without having to upgrade, trying to get two birds with one stone

What are your temps?

Getting better cooling won't make your workspace less hot but may actually make it hotter. Cooling removes heat from your components and puts it outside your case. Lowering your oc/voltage/load would be the way to a cooler workspace.

Yeah i know, its just a hot work space unfortunately and the only place i can put my rig is next to a radiator (my monitor is bolted to the wall). Under load my GPU can reach 80C with i know is within reasonable levels but i'd be much happier if it was closer to 25C and my CPU gets pretty hot too but the EVO cooler does a pretty decent job.

You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about water cooling, have you had any experience with custom coolers as oppose to stock ones?

Whats the reliability like?

Upkeep?

Comparative cost?

Thanks you are being genuinely useful, its a lot of money to spend and i want to look at all my options
