Hello. I bought a ASUS TUF GTX 1660 GAMING OC and the card does very well but the problem are the temperatures. Now I understand that the model is an "OC" model. However, when I don't have ASUS GPU Tweak software installed, the GPU boosts above 1900mhz. I've even seen it boost above 2000. When I installed the GPU Tweak software, it offers me three profiles. The OC mode makes the card boost the same as when I didn't have the software, and the Default mode boosts to about 1875MHz. Is there any reason for me to use OC mode for gaming? I'm not sure what to do,as I don't want my temperatures to get above 85 and I also dont want to lose performance if I'm using the wrong profile.

PC specs: Ryzen 5 2600, 16gb 3000MHz ram, the GPU, 256gb SSD.

People OC to get more performance out of their cards, the downside of course is higher power draw and higher heat output.

You could offset the power draw and heat output increase by undervolting the card, you could follow this guide.

Side note, 85C is well within safe temps and no performance would be loss.

Does it make sense for the OC mode to cause stutters in games?

Factory OC/BIOS OC, supposedly stable, so nope, it should increase FPS.

But, you may try the non OC profile and see if the stuttering stops, you never know, you might loss the silicone lottery.

Possible causes of stuttering.

It actually does. I have tried many times that the OC profile isn't fully stable and flashing a non oc bios actually helps. That's because some manufactures set a too optimistic profile for their OC cards

Should I just set it to Default then? I dont think I lose much with 30-50 MHz less boost..

Yes try it out, so do you use GPU Tweak to adjust clock speeds? If yes try removing the program. Also something completely different, if you also got a Asus motherboard. Go to bios and disable Asus Armory create. Download and run uninstallation tool: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/Armoury Crate/HelpDesk_Download/

When I remove the program the boost clocks are as high as the "OC mode".

I have a Gigabyte motherboard

Oh I see. How does it run without GPU tweak, as said earlier, 85c is fine

The fact that this GPU has such a small heatsink no wonder it gets so hot. I guess im just used to high 50's on my previous card RX 470 Asus Strix.

Without the software, the GPU runs the same as with OC mode.

I got it, right. But 85c is normal for that card. Also your RX 470 is significantly slower than this. 85C fine as long as you get high clocks. 93C is max temp according to nvidia
