I'd go fx6300 and a 7870XT (sapphire or club3d) as a base, get a cheap case like the Cooler Master K280, it's quite alright for the price :)

8gb of ram, just get something that's cheap (in Holland that is Kingston HyperX or GeIL black dragon).

If you have a hard drive lying around you could get an SSD instead. Otherwise choose storage, get 1TB or something ;)

That should make a nice base, nice balanced CPU/GPU if you ask me :)

Ive been told its better to spend on gpu rather than cpu so i would like to stick with the intel core i5 ive heard good reviews on the i5 in regards to gaming rigs

Then you'll spend more on CPU than GPU. For this amount of money for a build, its better to get an AMD cpu. Accept the truth.

The i7 will not benefit in a gaming a rig as most games nowadays are GPU bound.

yea but i do allot of Photoshop and sony vegas 12 plus cinema 4d ect (everything in adobe master collection) so thats what i think the i7 helps allot but if your not doing that get the i5 for sure

Something like this should do the trick: $660 after taxes and fees,

http://gyazo.com/304f6bf217a3c5f4d3b2880c46a95bc4

This should be able to play all games adequately at high settings.

If you had another $100 to throw, you could get a samsung 840 120gb ssd to make it very snappy.
