I have a new PC with a fresh install of Kubuntu 22.04 installed to a 1TB NVME SSD as my boot drive.  I also have a 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SATA SSD that I wanted to use as a game storage drive.  When I first installed Kubuntu, both were visible to both the OS and BIOS, but after installing to the 1TB, the 2TB one disappeared.  I've already checked the power and data cables and they seem to be working just fine.

My PC's specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900XT
RAM: 32GB (4x 8GB) G.SKILL Flare X DDR4 3200
Mobo: ROG Strix B550-F
Boot Drive: Samsung 980 PRO 1TB NVME SSD

EDIT: I'm completely new to Linux, so please explain things to me like I'm 5, especially terminal commands. 😅

Sometimes one or two sata ports will be disabled when you use an m.2.

From your MB manual...

When the M.2_2 Socket 3 is populated , SATA6G_5/6 ports will be disabled.

Do both the drives show in the bios menu?

Can you post the output of lsblk?

Is the sata drive fitting into a m.2 slot or a sata port?

Before installing Kubuntu, both drives were visible in the BIOS.  After installing Kubuntu to the 1TB NVME drive, the 2TB SATA drive vanished.
The 1TB NVME boot drive slots into M.2, the 2TB drive slots into a SATA port.

EDIT: The 2TB SSD has never been used or plugged into anything before I set up this PC.

I forgot to mention that I'm completely new to Linux so please talk to me like I'm 5 years old, especially when it comes to terminal commands. 😅

The lsblk command stands for "list block devices" which shows, apart from other things, all storage drives which are available to you. Another command, lspci, does the same with PCIe devices, regardless of what they are. I would therefore ask you to run lspci and show the output as well. Since you reported the drive isn't showing up in the BIOS I don't expect to see it in the output of lspci either but it might be helpful to see either way, sometimes such information can be of help as well.

The next steps, on the hardware side of things, would be to re-seat the SSD in question. Do you have any SATA drives (HDDs or further SSDs) or any other PCIe devices other than your GPU connected to your system? If so, unplug them and check if the drive appears afterwards.

First of all, sorry for the delayed reply, I've been super busy these past two days and haven't had the time to sit lay down and dig back into my PC until tonight.

Here's what lspci spat out:

As for any other SATA devices, I don't have any other than this one 2TB SSD currently installed, but I did have several other unused SATA cables plugged into the ports on the motherboard.  I had them in there to make future planned storage additions easier because my GPU completely covers the ports.

Just look at that lifted Dodge Ram of a GPU!

Anyway, I went ahead and removed all but one of the cables and I'm still not detecting the SSD in OS or BIOS.  😩

Switching the SATA cable from the bottom-most port to one of the ones in the middle did the trick!  I guess I didn't RTFM hard enough.
