ATI Mobility Radeon 3100 - no drivers from ATI (AMD) or Toshiba (now Dynabook) / now what?

Bender Blues

Pulled out an old laptop, Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5974 (Win 7 x64) https://gadgetaz.com/Laptop/Toshiba_Satellite_L305D-S5974--2317

Wanted to update gpu drivers.... safe mode, then DDU.

Reboot.

Installed (W7 64bit) https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/integrated-motherboard-graphics/ati-radeon-3xxx-series/ati-radeon-3100

Borked, tried three times. Jutters, slow, acting sick.

After researching, the ATI (AMD) 3100 drivers are not compatible with Toshiba laptops.

Went to Dynabook (was Toshiba computers), entered the model number L305D-S5974 - NO F'N GPU drivers 🖕

https://support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?freeText=2515193&osId=3333616

Tried the "Toshiba Service Station" - it found one odd driver, no gpu.

What the hell do I do now? In over 2 decades, never not been able to find a solution, until now lol

Thank You very much.

If you still have the CD then you can try to install the driver from it.

Anyway, not sure if you miss this, but here it is: https://support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?freeText=2226339&osId=3333616

Well with Nvidia GPUs you can mod the .INI file of the extracted driver to fit the GPU model so I don't see why it wouldn't work for ATI. You could try that with another GPU's driver to include the 3100 in the list of supported cards, OR to mod it to the I/0 range of the Toshiba lapotp.

And it aint there! Do you see the display driver on that link?! I sure as hell don't.

Weird weird.

edit: I see ya picked a slightly different model number. Very nice! I'd never thought of that.

Maybe you didn't select your Operating System by any chance? It's weird that it grey out the area but you can still select your OS.

Anyway, here's the direct link: https://support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?freeText=2226339&osId=3333616

Ah, apologised, I get the number mixed up. But anyway, try installing that driver and see if it works. Since they are all EOL, the drivers should be compatible within Toshiba's laptop.

Yeah for the model number I posted, theres no display drivers. And you can't select the OS.

Trying that one you provided with a slightly different model number, no joy.

Gave some off the wall errors, still installed and finished But the install didn't take. After install, reboot and still VGA drivers, max reso 1024.

Catalyist Control wont open.

Back to safe mode, DDU, cleared the AMD driver, rebooted.

Reinstalled that same driver you posted, same errors and VGA. No Catalyist control center.

Damn, what the hell am I going to do?! I've never seen a gpu (integrated or not) with no driver support.

Hell I probably could find some Vodoo 3Dfx drivers - but not these 😅

edit: Can select the OS now. W7 64......

Yes, this is strange. The different between the model I select and your model is the CPU, yours using Sempron while the link I provide is Athlon. Both of the system uses ATi 3100 GPU which is integrated one.

Anyway, I found out that the driver I posted is a beta driver. Not sure if a stable driver will work or not. Can give this a try: https://content.us.dynabook.com/content/support/downloads/driver_video_amd_28782A.exe
