problem suspending

So I am using manjaro with the xfce DE and suspend works fine if I  go to the start menu and do it from there but if I try and set it up from the power management application in order to schedule it so that my computer suspends after say ten minutes after those ten minutes my computer is still on and networking is disabled and I cant shutdown my computer or restart it. Any help is appreciated.
