What does numbers have to do with it? Dota 2 only has ~30 people working on it and Riot has 1000 and they are both great games although LoL isn't exactly up-to-date with graphics and I don't think they intend to update it any time soon.. It was the first modern engine Bethseda made from scratch so I guess I can't be too harsh on them for created something so outdated even for 2011 standards.

Yes. And Dota 2 contains one map, and the rest is character/effects art. They're not creating an entire world with multiple different types of locations, creatures, characters, items, etc, etc, etc.

Also, Bethesda rebuilds their engine with each TES release. And only with each TES release. This is why you see such large leaps in graphics and gameplay systems between each TES game, while Fallout 3 used a modified version of Oblivion's engine. Hence, why they looked/functioned so similar.

Numbers mean a lot, and I'll argue against anyone who wants to complain about Bethesda making "shit" games when I agree so much with their reasons for staying such a small company and building games that are fun to play. There are very few developers these days who actually care about making something interesting rather than pumping out the same thing over and over again.

If you want a pretty game with no substance... have fun playing Crysis. I require more than shiny graphics to enjoy a game though.

Was Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 not under the Gamebyro engine which is owned by another company and used for many other games? Gamebryo is not owned by Bethesda, they only have Creation Engine (Skyrim) and Xngine (Daggerfall etc.).

Anyway it isn't just the graphics either, the AI and the combat mechanics were still terrible while still better than previous TES games and the story makes you run around doing trivial work and eventually fight the final boss who didn't seem to show any sort of immediate threat at all.

The whole thing was a rushed mess and relied on patches to attempt to polish the game.

Yes they were. And that's why I said they rebuild their engine with each TES release. Because they do. Morrowind's engine was based on Gamebryo, and then they rebuilt it for Oblivion. They changed it significantly between Morrowind and Oblivion, but not much at all for Fallout 3.

AI is never good in any game. Ever. You can't have challenging AI without making them omniscient, and you can't make them omniscient if you plan on implementing any kind of stealth feature.

Also, Bethesda has never been great at writing a main story. But who really plays a Bethesda game for the main story? On the subject of "trivial work"... when has any RPG had you doing anything that wasn't trivial? You're always on a quest to find this item or that to defeat a final boss/save the world. Please give me an example of a quest in an RPG that isn't "trivial".

Finally, I'd like to see your evidence that proves the game was a "rushed" mess. And don't just mention random bugs. Every game has bugs, and the majority of them in Skyrim weren't even game breaking, and again, I'll simply mention the scale of the game in relation to the number of people actually creating it.

Skyrim is on DX9 lol, expected DX11 but they have to make the game to run on consoles which barely worked on consoles anyway at first. Maybe if they waited longer for the now current gen consoles to release it may have been a better game.

Apparently it is acceptable to have better side quests or fan made quests and having a terrible main quest in games these days lol.

Combat is a mess and the main story is mediocre but still a great game apparently.

Oh I know about the mods, but what happened to devs that actually put effort in making their game instead of relying on the user base who don't get paid for fixing their game? Why not put out a amazing game and have modders build on that to make it even better?

At least Valve does it right and the creators get paid for what they do.
