My 3080ti FE was running quite loud because mem temps were high (stock pads on FE are garbage). So I've replaced them with gelid extremes and repasted the core with Arctic mx-4. Now the mem temps seem to be better, but the core is noticeably worse, and at one point during time spy benchmark it reached 82C (before it reached 70-75). I disassembled the card again and added a bit of paste but it was making contact with the cooler (picture).

Should I be worried? What can be causing this and what can I do to fix it?

Too much thermal paste, use half of what you used there. This also can be due to using too thick thermal pads, depending on the card and the cooler design.

I've used 1,5mm so it should be ok, for the paste I did the classic X and 4 dots. Can it be too much?

Yeah that could be it, I spread a thin layer manually using a LOT less than that.

Fuck I really don't want to disassemble this thing for the 3rd time, but no choice I guess.

Just make sure its not boosting higher before you are disassembling, that alone could be why it is running hotter.

I've swapped the pads for gelid extremes 1,5mm and paste for arctic mx-5 on my 3080ti FE. At first I put a lot of paste and mem temps dropped down but GPU temps went up. Someone told me that I've put to much paste so I repasted with much less. Now these are temps after a few minutes of just driving around in GTA 5 (1440p max). Should I be concerned? Especially that hot spot. Is something wrong and if it is, what can I do?

Did you just replace ALL the thermal pads with 1.5mm thick ones??

From my understanding, the FE cards use DIFFERENT thickness pads, depending on the location + what the component is through the entire GPU.

few tutorials online showed that I should use 1.5 on die side and 2mm on the back and thats what I did. Do you think I should've used 1mm and that the die is not making full contact with the cooler plate?
