So i am in the market for a new gaming laptop, and was hoping for a little help shopping around. my budget is 800$ not including tax, so if its 799$ or 800$ its fair game. min 8 gigs ram, hopefully ssd (but i know that's not going to happen,at least a 740m or comparable AMD GPU. Thanks in advance for the help.

Check out some lenovo y510p or y410p models on amazon. Some are around that price and specs. I can find one later.

Sager, the brand that makes hardware for companies like Alienware, has great gaming laptops, with much lower prices, as they're not buying parts from anyone. That's where my brother got his gaming notebook.

so i don't know if i should blindly take his word for it, but i called customer service with lenovo and he said you cant put an ssd in there. would i be voiding my warranty by doing so?

Hmm I'm not sure. I looked online on lenovoes forums. Let me check again. Even so in it in most if not all models is a hybrid drive.

OK just talked with a lenovo employee. He said you can't. I showed him a YouTube video saying how to. He said would void warenty. So you could, if you search how to on YouTube, but may void warenty.

I have personally done so with my Y510p when I had it. Its a simple procedure and I didn't have to remove or break any seals. I am sure they told you that to cover their asses. But if you need to send it in to get it fix or something, just pop the HDD back in. It's extremely simple and anybody can do it.

The lenovo guy i just spoke to in the above post said it would void warenty, but he did not seem very knoladgeable or fluent in english.

My best suggestion is to wait for the new gang of gaming laptops, like Lenovo Y40/Y50

Can you install your own OS?

Are you ok with refurbished?

What kind of games do you play?

Yeah, y50 and y40 look good
