Hi everyone,

So before some people start throwing nonsense about pc vs macs, this thread isn't for this, i'm fed up with the mac/pc war, they're all computers so get along with it

I have (besides my gaming pc), a mid 2012 core i5 macbook pro that I use for college work and pretty much everything when i'm out , the thing works, OSX 10.7.8 is great and battery life is 6-8 hours so it does the job

However, i've installed Parallels and installed a Debian VM on it, thing is the MBP is loaded with 2x2gb 1600Mhz DDR3 Ram. On OSX only it does the job quite well but running a VM is a pain in the ass, i can't allocate more than 1Gb, and it runs so slow under load that i feel like i'm watching a stop motion video.

I need to upgrade & after some research i found that this macbook's max ram is -officially- 8gb, but I can install 16Gb of ram on it.

Do i need 16Gb of ram ? Will the VM benefit from the extra ram ? Would applications like Photoshop or Live benefit from it ?

Thanks for your input

I have 16GB in mine. Started with 8 and found i needed more. So i got more.

EDIT: I'd suggest just going to 16.
