Hey, so I recently bought an ASUS dual rx 6700 xt and found out that my cpu - I5-8400 - could cause a bottleneck to my new card. I spent most of my money on this new radeon, so I can't afford a cpu like the Ryzen 5 5600. Any advice? What is the cheapest cpu powerfull enough for rx 6700 xt? I am also worried about the motherboard: since I am building a PC from my father's Dell Optiplex (almost 4 years old), I will be using a "cougar mt 17539-1" motherboard. Last thing: this PC has 16GB of 2666MHz DDR4 memory, which seems too low (most modern systems have 3200+ MHz). (I live in Europe btw, prices here are a little bit different).

Check if there is a sub 100$ i7 8700 available.

Its not really a bottleneck more of a the cpu doesnt have enough threads so games stutter kinda deal.

As for all the rest its fine.

Ram is fine too dont worry not worth the upgrade.

that mainboard only goes up to i7 8700, which goes for around 350€ if you buy an unused CPU. ( Even then the 8700 still has about 8% bottleneck with the 6700xt according to pc-builds.com, whereas your current CPU has 23% bottlenck in GPU intensive 1080p applications)

For that money you can also buy a new mainboard and a ryzen 5 5600X with new RAM.

i agree with the previous poster, that getting a used i7 8700 for less than 100€ would be the best/cheapest option, however a quick ebay search didnt give me any auctions below 200€.

In the meantime...

Use a 60FPS CAP, removing the extra CPU/Thread cycles needed for Higher framerates.

And, utilize AMD VSR (1440p on 1080p display for example) if you want to push higher image quality and more gpu usages (altho the usage isn't exactly important if capped anyway)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
