OBS poor image quality rx 5700xt

Hey complete obs greenhorn here,

I try to stream my sessions playing Guild Wars 2 with my friends, so that we can make best of videos later.

But my stream quality is not the best. The text (NPC names ,etc) and everything else blurrs every time I move.

My upload speed is 36.75 Mbps.

Obs has high priority for its process in Windows 10.

Obs version : 27.2.4

GPU: Rx 5700xt (driver 21.50.21.11-220428a-379219C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition)

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

RAM: 32 GB 3200 mhz

here is a test stream https://youtu.be/ofPSqQCL6I4

here is a log from obs : https://gist.github.com/Ruboka/9c406432eec1c624e2193094adce004f

Also noticed, that OBS has ~50% gpu usage during an active stream. is this behavior normal?

I read about obs plugins for AMF too, but those seem to be discontinued.

Can anyone help me?

That's normal. Might get a little better if you use an Nvidia card with Nvenc, RX 6000 card with updated encoder or Intel iGPU with Quicksync, but even then you're still getting quality loss like this. Don't expect a big difference from a different GPU. You could also try CPU encoding, but the performance impact is too big.

You could try increasing bitrate, but most streaming services have a limit. Twitch for example recommend no more than 6000kbps, and I think it actually doesn't go above 8000kbps or so.

Does same happen in just local recording? And have you tried without downscaling?

YouTube determines your stream quality by your subscriber and view count. For Small channels it comes in low quality using the avc1 codec, for larger channels it comes in a higher quality using the vp9 codec.

I watch a streamer with around 33k subscribers and a average 1k views and they are still stuck on the lower quality, so I am not sure on what the requirements are to unlock the higher streaming quality.

I want to doubt it, that the only problem is my subscriber count.

I yet have to try higher output resolution, but more data to be transmitted probably makes it only worse. I got an suggestion on the obs forum that I should try using a 1440p key and transmit it on 1080p, but I can not see any improvement. Also it appears my stream randomly starts to lag, my stream lags or it does not, it wont switch between the two.
