G-sync blinks/flicker when turned on

If you do not mind me asking while on the subject of G-sync. Should Vsync be ON in 3d settings with G-sync on? I remember hearing about that. Right now its set to use 3d application settings. But i heard its: G-sync on. And V-sync On in 3d settings And then Vsync off in games

Gsync On with Vsync On is the most correct IMO. When Vsync is off there can be some tearing. With Vsync off you get slightly better latency but who cares. Turning Vsync on in the control panel overrides game settings so you don't have to care what the game setting is. Don't use "fast" or anything other setting in the control panel other than "On", "Off", or "Use Application setting".

Hello Tech people! I hope i hope i'm writing this in the right forum 🙂
I got myself a new monitor recently and while i'm enjoying the upgrade from my old one. I have an issue with G-sync 😕
The monitor i got is an Asus VG27AQ TuF gaming G-sync 2560x1440 WQHD And so on..

Anyway! Back to the issue. When i turn on G-sync in nvidia control panel, my screen does like 3 small blinks almost like its auto adjusting something. It keeps doing that every time i open a new folder / browser / steam library / basically every time i open something new on my pc. And its very distracting to look at 😕
At first i thought it was my monitor doing something with brightness, but found out quickly that it only happens when G-sync is enabled. And goes away the moment i turn it off.
Now the weird thing is that in my monitor settings (the menu that opens on from the buttons on my monitor) it says "adaptive-sync: ON (G-sync compatible) despite it being off in nvidia control panel..
So first of all! Any idea why its blinking with G-sync enabled?
And second of all. If its "on" in my monitor menu. Then how can it be off in nvidia control panel? This confuses me a lot.. Is it on or not.

I'm not very good at this stuff. So i hope someone can help me here 🙂  If i can answer questions about my settings and so on to help find a fix. Then please ask away! I've been playing 60fps games since i got it without issues. But feels weird to to pay for a G-sync monitor if its not going to be of use

From my understanding you have to enable adaptive sync on your monitor to allow for you to enable it in windows. That does not mean that it's enabled though as you don't have it on in windows. As for the flickering I am not entirely sure but I used to have the same issue with one of my monitors and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to fix it but eventually it just stopped doing that. It seemed to be a software thing I just couldn't figure out the cause. I originally thought it was an HDR issue where it was adjusting for HDR for each program.

First of all, your monitor does not have G-sync. It is G-sync Compatible, which means it uses Freesync. G-sync and Freesync are similar but separate technologies that both fall under Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).

In order to activate VRR, you need to first activate it in the monitor, then in the control panel. It's only on if both are on. If it's off in the monitor, then the control panel will not present you with the option to enable it.

Do not use "enable for windowed and full screen mode". Only use the fullscreen mode option.

You haven't described the blinking very well, but it sounds like it may be brightness flicker associated with Low Framerate Compensation (LFC), which is more of an issue with Freesync than Gsync in my experience. When the framerate drops below a threshold(usually around 40-50 FPS), the refresh rate of your monitor switches from 1:1 in-sync with the frame rate to 2:1 or double the framerate. Monitors have different brightness at different refresh rates, so this sudden doubling of the refresh rate is seen as a flicker in the brightness level. This could be the "blinking" you are seeing.

Yeah i didn't know how to explain the blinking thing. But it looks like its gone now? I enabled G-sync -> disabled it and enabled it again. And now it looks fine so far. I can't explain why its fine now. But hey, if it works it works 🙂
Also about the G-sync compatible thing.. When i filtered my search for monitors i searched for G-sync while g-sync compatible was unchecked. So that's why i thought it was a G-sync monitor 😛 My bad.

Ok. G-sync on. And Vsync set to ON in 3d settings 🙂
Thanks for the help
