So i got my Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-x 3 days ago temperature was idling at 50c so i initially thought it was the card: i got a replacement order. The replacement arrived today and the same temperature right now it is at 47-50c no 3d applications. is it some settings i have? Psu not delivering enough power (i asked this question earlier on the forums because i was concerned )?  Temperature monitoring programs not reading well? (doubt it read it fine on 660ti.) Drivers not installed well; had some problems installing them.  I was going to post this on the forums

"Coming from nvidia to amd.  I did the driver wipe from normal boot. Okay so after a restart then i installed the amd drivers; got an error saying that catalyst control  center was not installed. Wiped the drivers of amd and then tried again still the same error. Then i tried to go into safe mode to wipe again got a safe mode with black screen and mouse pointer only. I had to delete the boot config  and then repaired using windows installation usb.Now back to windows there's some updates for amd i installed it and the catalyst now works, but when i updated the drivers to beta still same error that it could not be installed. Forgot to mention drivers and other software is installed normally except ccc"

but when i tried installing again so i could get the same error to post a screenshot on the forums it worked.

Even at stock settings  temperatures remain the same. Read on some reviews they had the same idle temperatures(http://www.legitreviews.com/sapphire-vapor-x-r9-290-tri-x-oc-video-card-review_139177/11) as me and on others they had it at 30-33c(http://www.computerbase.de/2014-04/sapphire-radeon-vapor-x-r9-290-luefter-aus-lautstaerke-test/4/) (http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/sapphire-r9-280x-vapor-x-oc-and-r9-290-vapor-x-oc-review/27/)

Lol another replacement?

Idle temps really depend on the ambient temperature of the room. My R9 290 idles at 43c, fan speed is at 30%.

50c is fine for idle temps. The only thing that matters is load temps.
