Saving a document... Opened from an email?

Go to solution Solved by Whaler_99,

Well... You sure this will work on the public school crap computers? Also, is this saved in the user's folder or on the disk (like, not in the user profile folder)? This makes a lot of difference, I believe, since there aren't much stuff there. It has probably been cleared then.

Any windows systems would do this... if you open a document from email, it need to store a temp, working copy locally. It would typically use the user temp variable... and you be surprised. A lot of stuff that should get cleared out of the temp folder never does...

Today I was working on an essay for school. We were using the school computers (so not my computer but school's random crap). I had sent my essay to myself via email some days ago when I had last worked at it. Then, I opened my mail and from there, I opened the document. I started writing and... When I saved, it wasn't really saved. Or, I couldn't find it on the computer. Is there any way of retrieving that or is it lost, do I have to rewrite everything?

Anyway, it's ok because it wasn't actually my essay that got lost, but I still wonder whether it's possible or not to get the information back. I mean, it could happen to me (for real) and then it really would be useful to know, sure?

u herd i liek pudkipz then ur rite ill do cut4pudkipz cuz i can has no pudkipz

If just opened from email, it was probably saved into the "temp" folder, that would have been it's working directory....

Yeah it's in the temp folder, if you haven't logged out you can go to start, run or press the windows key  and R on the keyboard. Then type in %temp% and press enter. You should find it in there, if the temp folder has not been cleared. Always make sure to save it somewhere not just open it as this will always happen.

Sounds legit... It's a shame, though, that I won't be able to try it out before next week (who's in school during the weekend, anyway?).
