CPU: Intel Core i3-10100f

MOTHERBOARD: MSI H510I PRO WiFi

RAM: Silicon Power DDR4 32GB 3200MHZ (For modded Minecraft)

GPU: GTX 1660 Ti

STORAGE: Intel 660p 2TB

CASE: SSUPD Meshlicious Mini-ITX

CPU COOLER: Noctua NH-L9i

PSU: 550W TUF 80+ Bronze

horrible way to waste money

I actually wanted to get the noctua cooler for cosmetics over performance. I also figured it would have the added bonus of letting my cpu reach it's max potential. I'm also gonna be using mx4 thermal paste.

The case I'm getting is only $100. It has a pci 3.0 riser instead of the pci 4.0(pci 4.0 riser makes it $160). And it's not like it's all that fancy or anything, it essentially a black box with mesh walls

For that budget you can quite comfortably get either a ryzen5600/12400f (that i3 is gonna show it only being a 4c/8t cpu quite soon) or a better gpu. All you'd need to do is shift around the budgetting a bit.

Are you sold on that case or do you mind opting for somethung more budget friendly?

I could reconsider that case. I originally wanted it because I wanted to put a 310mm gtx 780ti in it. Now though, I could probably do most cases that has support for a 2-slot gpu. I am a big fan of the minimalist look of it though.

You should go for 12100F if choosing the cheapest or 12400F if you are willing to forgo fancy case, so you can stay somewhat within the budget

So I'm not asking to be a jerk, I'm just wondering, what about the case I chose is fancy? I mean, it's basically just a black rectangle with meth walls.

‘Fancy’ price for a budget/‘bang for the buck’ system. It doesn’t mean that you can not go with a case you would like - go ahead and enjoy it, just understand that ~$50 or so is not going towards the performance. We don’t know which build is correct for you - you are the one who is going to be using this pc, so if you want it to look nicer - it is perfectly acceptable.

Another caveat is that performance difference might not be significant at all or important to you. You have to check the youtube to see gameplay difference between 12100 and 12400 for Minecraft and other games. Moreover, you GPU might be the bottleneck (most probably will be) for most titles, so CPU performance might not matter in the end.

Future usage and/or upgradability is also always in question when going with budget builds. Do not think that 12100 will suddenly become obsolete or unusable junk - it is a good performer, but depending on how you see your future usage, your build might need more flexibility. Again, this might not matter at all, and by the time you’ll ACTUALLY need something different, it would be a better idea to change the whole platform or get a different pc.

So, my advice is to check youtube gameplay with different setups and see if it matters to you, so you won’t get buyer’s remorse.
