Media streaming, over wifi ?

Personally I hate wifi solutions, everything but my phone has at least a Cat 5e line going to it. With LAN streaming it's all about the bandwidth.

What are you streaming 1080p? TV server?

What router do you have?

I haven't had the best experience with powerline adapters but it may differ depending on how your power setup is in your home.

Its really depended on what content you want to stream and how many devices would you like to stream. If its just streaming HD videos from you Desktop to laptop you dont need much, just a good 300 N Wifi router would do, but if you want more like streaming videos to you TV, PC, gaming then go for something more powerful like Asus RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router and yeah I dont really prefer streaming over wifi all those random connection drops and Wifi interference are ANNOYING especially while gaming and watching HD videos

I'd say buy a faster good Wifi router and use the the Gigabit Ethernet to connect to your media server its faster than power line and there are forums where people complain they bought a power line adapter and it isnt giving them expected results.

My setup is I have setup a 3 TB Storage server where all my files are stored, it is connected to a Wireless N300 router by a Ethernet cable and then I run Ethernet cable to my media center PC, my desktop and the TV. I use Wifi only for laptop and phone.

WIFI works for me. Since everything is encoded on the fly on the home server. (Using Plex)

If you have the wifi bandwidth to do it then there should be no problem but the one thing that you have to consider is that the further away from the router that you get the slower it is gonna be.

Using Plex here, it's really nice especially if you are running different devices and it will only become better with a new very big release in beta atm.
