I'm losing my mind right now. So, I just shutdown and reseated the M.2 drive, but it still isn't being recognized anymore. HOWEVER, this time, my Adrenaline software didn't reset and I didn't get a new critical error in Event viewer. PC'ing can be weird at times. Still need to see what's going on with this drive. As I stated above, everything is up to date. *sigh*

Glad your situation was fixed though!

okay. So try running the 970 in the second M.2 slot and see if it is being recognised. Then, replace the WD drive or send it for warranty stuff. otherwise, its a problem with the mother board. Knowing where the problem lies will help.

thats not the BIOS version. thats the AMD AGESA version. u might wanna check again. If u isolate the problem to the motherboard, u may wanna reflash the BIOS manually, without software. But we will deal with that when we come to it.

Hey all,

I normally run my PC 24/7 365 (Unless I'm away on a trip, etc) For the last 2-ish years I've been on Win10. When I press start and go to shut the PC down, it appears that its shutting down properly like normal. Then I'll boot the system up and my AMD radeon software will greet me with "Settings return to default, system wasn't shutdown properly" or something to that effect. About 3 weeks ago, I moved to Win11 fresh install off a USB and I'm still having the same issue. I went to check the Even viewer, but Lord knows I have no idea what I'm looking for. I just know it shows 1 critical error and it says Event 41 Kernel-power system. Any thoughts on what could be causing this issue of it not properly shutting down? BIOS is lastest (1.2.0.7 or whatnot) AMD drivers on latest one and I install all Windows update as I check every few days since I leave the PC on all the time.

Also have one sidebar for another issue. My M2_2 slot on my MSI B550 gaming plus, I see sometimes after full shutdown, the second M.2 slot isn't recognized. I'll restart the PC a once or twice and then the drive will appear like normal. However, I just checked today and now the drive isn't recognized at all. I restarted the PC 3 or 4 times. I have HwInfo64 installed and it usually shows all 3 drives, but now just the two.  In the BIOS it only shows my 860 Evo Sata drive and my 970 Evo+ that's in M.2 slot 1. I haven't tried to reseat the M.2 slot yet with the SN550, but I'll do that later today to see if the drive came loose I suppose. Any ideas on this issue as I'm skeptical that its a loose drive issue, but I'll check it nonetheless to be thorough. Also, HwInfo showed that the life remaining for the drive was 100% The only drive under 100 was the 860 which was at 94% and I bought that in '18. The other two drives are a year old. And it was working fine when I initially installed Win11 as normal.

Thanks for any and all help.

That's my next move once I get home. I'll switch slots and see what happens, but I'm thinking the second M.2 slot went bad. We'll see though.

And yeah, the actually BIOS version is 7C56v1A, I just threw the Agesa part in there as that was the latest update a part of the BIOS for the AMD TPM stutter fix. Also, only software used is the MSI M-Flash using a USB stick. I don't download it over the internet or use that MSI Center if that's what you meant. But appreciate the feedback and help. I'll switch the slots in a few hours and post an update.

@killswitch6000

So, I switched slots and both drives are appearing now. Which is weird since I reseated the WD drive earlier this morning and it didn't show up. So I'm gonna leave it like that for now, but during this shutdown, my original problem has returned with the Radeon settings defaulting because the system is saying I didn't properly shutdown. Life comes at you fast, lol.

Yeah, everything up to date and fine. As I said, I did all latest updates to everything even before switching to Win11. Guess it's just being weird. I'll mark your initial statement as the resolution. Appreciate the help. And as far as the windows fake shutting down properly, fuck it. Everything runs fine. It is what it is. Lol.

Did this work for you? im currently having the same problem

I never got around to trying this troubleshooting. I just put the two M.2 drives in their original slots I had when I installed Win10 and Win 11 and haven't had a problem. And if you're speaking about the AMD software crashing, I turned off Fast boot and haven't had any problems since. Hope this helps.
