Minecraft server

Hey all, so I wanted to find out if anyone knows how to run a personal MC server hosted from there pc, I have done this in the past, but all of a sudden it stopped working, I have tried re downloading, it and that does not help, can someone tell me what I can try to do, I have a very powerful pc, and know that it is more then powerful enough for me and my firends to play on the server, so I do not want to buy a host of any sorts.

i have setup multiple minecraft servers, what is not working, does the server go up? does the server crash? is it port forwarded?

Okay, so I will open the server, and when I go into multiplayer it will search for a hwile and then say cant acess or what ever, if I go to direct connect: Localhost25565 I can get in, I have not altered anything, but one day me and my friends are playing on the server just fine the next its not working.

yeah, like I said I had it running fine before

can your friends join, and did you direct connect to localhost

and did you type in the port in the ip, that may be the problem

they can;t join anymore, and yes in the ip at the end i do have 25565

thats the problem dont do that, remove that from the end, just use the ip and if that doesnt work, did you type in your ip in your server config file?
