I noticed that 2 of the slots on my motherboard have heatsinks on both sides of the m.2 drive.  One of the slots has the normal heatsink cover, but the back of the drive is just held away from the motherboard and air is allowed behind the drive.

My question is, should I buy a low profile heatsink for that slot to mount on the bottom of the drive, or are those unnecessary?  I am using the SAMSUNG 980 PRO which is a dual sided m.2

Check the temperatures of your ssd, if they are above around 60 or 70 under normal load then yeah you should get one. You can use hwinfo64 to see the temperatures.

I have a mini monitor just for that kind of thing, so Ill keep an eye on it.
