Hi All,

I've been a fan of the channel and Linus's videos for a while. I just graduated from university and got a job - so finally have the money to build my first computer. I'm going for an all-white build!

Budget (including currency): $3000 AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games mostly
Given that i currently have a overheating Ryzen 2700U, i can only really play league right now - but am looking to start playing things like forza in the future. I already have a 120HZ monitor, a couple hardrives and all the peripherals i need for now.

I've spec'd out the following computer and am looking for some input before i pull the trigger: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/kh6LyK

Motherboard: Asus PRIME Z690-P WIFI D4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700KF

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 LHR 8 GB VISION OC Rev 2.0 Video Card

Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory

Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive

Case: Corsair iCUE 5000X RGB QL Edition ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: Corsair RM (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX 75 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

After using an AIO for my first build, i'm thinking of potentially replacing it out with a custom watercooling loop in the future (I don't want it to leak into my first computer). Otherwise, my main questions are:

  • Do i need to go with a 5000x case, or if the 4000x will be fine - will it look like there's too much empty space in a 5000x case?
  • Should i try wait a couple months for the next gen CPU's and GPU's? Or just buy something now and upgrade if i really feel the need to. Will the price for all these components go down alot?
  • Is the 850W PSU overkill, or is it fine for me to buy something to keep my system future proof?

Thanks,

Emad

I'll answer these question now and see if I can build a list for you later.

The case would be fine especially since the rad you have in your list is a 360 and the 4000x does not support 360 on the top of the Case, unless you want to put it on the front which would be weird but probably fine. Really if you have the mindset to keep waiting until the next release than people would never buy pc parts. If recommend buying now since the parts out now are already adequate for most games. You have a lga1700 mobo so if you really feel like upgrading than you can put in a raptor lake cpu no problem.

An 850 watt would be fine for your build.

As for your build it looks fine except I'd go to a 12700 or a 12700f because oc is dead because of 12th gen precesion boost that brings the core clocks to their highest capability. I'll give you a pass on the z690 board because I cant find a cheaper b660 board that's white on .au lol
