thats a god point, i have heard from yt before that some gigaby te cards are slow at ramping up and down the fan speed

you can lock the fan speed at 100% if needed. the fan is designed to run at 100% indefinitely , it won't wear out any faster or anything the only reason for adjustable fan speeds is just noise levels. if you don't care about the noise then 100% will help a lot.

need help, just upgraded from 1660ti to a 6700xt

as an example i played pc building sim at max settings on the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti VENTUS XS 6G OC and had on average 65c ish on my new gigabyte eagle 6700 xt i get like 80+ when the fans are set to auto the card doesnt seem to go higher than 65% fan speed but even if i enable it to 100% fan speed temps are still high 74c ish seems a bit high for me

my case is a be quiet pure base 500 temp glass and it has 3 intake fans 120mm and 2 exhaust fans 120mm at the back and top of the case

any ideas or is the gigabyte eagle 6700 xt just a bad card unsure

I've seen that before, even had cards "thermal throttling" and not pushing the fans over 65%.

As a quick test, try running it with the glass off for a few minutes, if this results in a more favourable temperature, it's time to rethink your fan arrangements, the indication would be that some of your intake/exhaust pairs are just shifting air in and out without adding any real benefit of fresh air reaching the warmer parts of your case internals. In this case move a higher level front intake fan to a "roof" exhaust fan, and concentrate these nearer the back of the case over the cpu area.

It's worth mentioning, I've also seen the fan controllers sort of "hard lock" after a crash, the machine reboots fine, reports no errors, if you probe the controls the GPU fans are being driven correctly, but they are not moving. Until you literally pull the power out and wait for all the lights to go out on the motherboard, this sort of "hard lock" persists.

I've not had it recently due to the more mature drivers not crashing and "triggering" this issue (or even a firmware update fixing the "hard lock"), but it's worth keeping an eye on in case you get affected by it.
