Looking for advice before buying

Go to solution Solved by Pixelfie,

Cheaper and better. The 12700 isn't that much more but has more cores. You don't need an AIO, the Freezer 34 is a great cooler and only €35. This B660 is pretty decent and cheap. This RAM is cheaper and will work just as good. The 970 Evo is overpriced and overrated, you won't notice a difference with this one but it's cheaper. The case you chose is pretty good. The PSU is great too but this one is a little bit cheaper.

I'd wait with the GPU until RTX 40 and RX 7000 release and see what they have to offer. If they aren't good the current GPU's will probably drop in price. But if you're waiting you might as well wait for new CPU's, and maybe also wait to see what PSU you would need.

PCPartPicker Part List

Hi guys, i finally decided to upgrade my 4-5 years old very weak pc to something nice that will last me at least as much and with hopefully not as many compromises, since when i built my current one i was younger and with much more limited budget lol. I put up togheter this build and im just looking for some advice to give it the finishing touches before i buy the components or if i need to wait more or not, im looking to get the best i can for the buck ofc and that will last me a good while. Right now im probably thinking on using my current 1050ti (yes, its not great) so i took the gpu out of the part list since im not looking to buy one now, but i welcome any advice regarding that as well.

Budget (including currency): around 1800-2000€ with GPU included

Country: Italy

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mainly some 3D rendering and gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): currently i use 1080p 60hz but im looking to upgrade into 1440p with good fps across the board and 120-144hz with this build. For that i will need to change monitor as well, but i dont intend on doing that now, i will do it more down the line, but if you can suggest me something that fits into the build outside of budget i will take note of that for the future.

As stated before gpu is missing cause prices for it are a bit too much still imo so i ll be waiting for either price drops or the new nvidia series, my preferred target at the moment would be a 3070ti, open to suggestions on the matter.

The piece im probably most unsure about is the cooler and maybe the case, just cause im not an expert on cases and im not sure if there s anything better.

Good build, one can debate about 12600K vs 12700 ...

Now you still have $800+ for a better GPU, you could get a 3080 for $850 because the 1050Ti will really s*ck in your new rig ! 🙂

Hi, thanks for the suggestions that s really helpful, also interesting, do you really think the two memories wouldnt really give much difference from one another? Also im not rly informed in motherboards either, but looks like this one has a front usb type c header? Ig that s nice, im not sure what s the difference with all the rest tho.

I'll definetly take into consideration all these suggestions tho, if i may ask i also have a doubt, well more like a problem of lazyness lol, basically should i move my OS from my current ssd (a Crucial MX500 500GB) to whatever nvme drive i get? Is that really much of a difference? Otherwise i ll just skip the hassle.

Thanks for the answer as well, yeah i know the 1050ti is pretty crap lol, but i guess it will have to do for a while still, i mean it did its job well enough till now i guess for what it s worth, but yeah prices for a nice 3080 over here are much more bloated than that sadly lol, i dont really see any other option other than waiting for the new series or a price drop tbh.

Also regarding the cpu, is it really worth the jump? I mean is the difference quite noticeable?

Thanks for the answers so far.

The performance difference is very small, especially on Intel.

The main difference is that the Z690 supports CPU overclocking, but that's only useful if you have a K CPU and the 12700 would be worth it over the 12600K so that's not needed. Also the B660 board is smaller, so if you want a smaller case that's possible too.

For OS you really won't notice any difference. Just make sure to do a clean install if possible, that's always best when switching major components like CPU. When you upgrade the GPU from the 1050 Ti also run DDU.

Oh alright i see, well if i need a clean install anyway i might as well do it on the new drive i guess. Well thanks for all the advice, i think i will go with the most of the things you suggested me so i would like to ask you, what do you think the performance would be with this build? Lets say with something like a 3070ti added to it, would i be pretty comfortable overall, for some years as well? Ofc just an approximate opinion if you can.

Also if its not too much to ask lol do you have a good monitor in mind that would fit well into this build, that i could get later down the line? Like 120-144hz and around 24" or more i would say. Thanks again.

I think it would perform very good. It would probably last at least 5 years, but probably 8-10 years before needing an upgrade.

A good monitor would be the Gigabyte G27Q. If you want 24 inch you can get an AOC 24G2, but it's only 1080p and I think with a system like this you should at least get 1440p.

Oh wow i wish that would be the case lol, but i trust you on that one, if that would be the case i'd be happy, but anyway i just wanna forget the struggle of having to deal with the compromises from my very weak current build lol

And yeah i was thinking the same, but thanks for the suggestion, i will see what i can find in the future.

Well thank you very much guys for all the help, it was very helpful and i think im gonna make a move soon then, hope it goes well lol.
